Young Business Associates (YBA), formerly called the Students of Black Enterprise Magazine, is in its ninth year at Fort Johnson Middle School. YBA exposes students to educational, career and entrepreneurship opportunities, providing students with academic motivation, creative thinking skills and the ability to make career choices. Activities include regularly-scheduled discussions on business ownership, meeting with local entrepreneurs, field trips to local businesses, and competing in presenting a business as a career choice. This year’s class included a bright group of thirty students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades who meet the 1st and 2nd Thursday of each month for 45 minutes during their lunch period. Gift certificates from Wal-Mart were given to the students for excellent work this year.
